1843 & 1850 Charts

 

Jer. 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

 

Introduction. Wm. Miller,

God sent His angel to move upon the heart of a farmer who had not believed the Bible, to lead him to search the prophecies. Angels of God repeatedly visited that chosen one, to guide his mind and open to his understanding prophecies which had ever been dark to God’s people. The commencement of the chain of truth was given to him, and he was led on to search for link after link, until he looked with wonder and admiration upon the Word of God. He saw there a perfect chain of truth. That Word which he had regarded as uninspired now opened before his vision in its beauty and glory. He saw that one portion of Scripture explains another, and when one passage was closed to his understanding, he found in another part of the Word that which explained it. He regarded the sacred Word of God with joy and with the deepest respect and awe. {EW 229.1}

 

Foundation & platform

I saw a company who stood well-guarded and firm, giving no countenance to those who would unsettle the established faith of the body. God looked upon them with approbation. I was shown three steps—the first, second, and third angels’ messages. Said my accompanying angel, “Woe to him who shall move a block or stir a pin of these messages. The true understanding of these messages is of vital importance. The destiny of souls hangs upon the manner in which they are received.” I was again brought down through these messages, and saw how dearly the people of God had purchased their experience. It had been obtained through much suffering and severe conflict. God had led them along step by step, until He had placed them upon a solid, immovable platform. I saw individuals approach the platform and examine the foundation. Some with rejoicing immediately stepped upon it. Others commenced to find fault with the foundation. They wished improvements made, and then the platform would be more perfect, and the people much happier. Some stepped off the platform to examine it and declared it to be laid wrong. But I saw that nearly all stood firm upon the platform and exhorted those who had stepped off to cease their complaints; for God was the Master Builder, and they were fighting against Him. They recounted the wonderful work of God, which had led them to the firm platform, and in union raised their eyes to heaven and with a loud voice glorified God. This affected some of those who had complained and left the platform, and they with humble look again stepped upon it. {EW 258.3}

Pioneers, “established truth” & “aftersuppositions”

Let Pioneers Identify Truth—When the power of God testifies as to what is truth, that truth is to stand forever as the truth. No aftersuppositions, contrary to the light God has given are to be entertained. Men will arise with interpretations of Scripture which are to them truth, but which are not truth. The truth for this time, God has given us as a foundation for our faith. He Himself has taught us what is truth. One will arise, and still another, with new light which contradicts the light that God has given under the demonstration of His Holy Spirit. {CW 31.2}

 

A few are still alive who passed through the experience gained in the establishment of this truth. God has graciously spared their lives to repeat and repeat till the close of their lives, the experience through which they passed even as did John the apostle till the very close of his life. And the standard-bearers who have fallen in death, are to speak through the reprinting of their writings. I am instructed that thus their voices are to be heard. They are to bear their testimony as to what constitutes the truth for this time. {CW 32.1}

We are not to receive the words of those who come with a message that contradicts the special points of our faith. They gather together a mass of Scripture, and pile it as proof around their asserted theories. This has been done over and over again during the past fifty years. And while the Scriptures are God’s word, and are to be respected, the application of them, if such application moves one pillar from the foundation that God has sustained these fifty years, is a great mistake. He who makes such an application knows not the wonderful demonstration of the Holy Spirit that gave power and force to the past messages that have come to the people of God.—Preach the Word, p. 5 (1905). {Counsels to Writers & Editors, p.32.2}

“The warning has come: Nothing is to be allowed to come in that will disturb the foundation of the faith upon which we have been building ever since the message came in 1842, 1843, and 1844. I was in this message, and ever since I have been standing before the world, true to the light that God has given us. We do not propose to take our feet off the platform on which they were placed as day by day we sought the Lord with earnest prayer, seeking for light. Do you think that I could give up the light that God has given me? It is to be as the Rock of Ages. It has been guiding me ever since it was given.” {RH April 14, 1903, Art. B, par. 35}

Tables = Charts

Both the 1843 and 1850 Charts have endorsements including either direct confirmation or the terminology of Habakkuk.

 Habakkuk 2:1 I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. 2 And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. 3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

“As early as 1842 the direction given in this prophecy to ‘write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it,’ had suggested to Charles Fitch the preparation of a prophetic chart to illustrate the visions of Daniel and the Revelation. The publication of this chart was regarded as a fulfillment of the command given by Habakkuk. No one, however, then noticed than an apparent delay in the accomplishment of the vision--a tarrying time--is presented in the same prophecy. After the disappointment, this scripture appeared very significant: ‘The vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry...The just shall live by his faith.’" {GC 392}        (They then saw they were acting out the “10 virgins” parable.)

Table One (1843 Chart)

September 23, the Lord showed me that He had stretched out His hand the second time to recover the remnant of His people, and that efforts must be redoubled in this gathering time. In the scattering, Israel was smitten and torn, but now in the gathering time God will heal and bind up His people. In the scattering, efforts made to spread the truth had but little effect, accomplished but little or nothing; but in the gathering, when God has set His hand to gather His people, efforts to spread the truth will have their designed effect. All should be united and zealous in the work. I saw that it was wrong for any to refer to the scattering for examples to govern us now in the gathering; for if God should do no more for us now than He did then, Israel would never be gathered. I have seen that the 1843 chart was directed by the hand of the Lord, and that it should not be altered; that the figures were as He wanted them; that His hand was over and hid a mistake in some of the figures, so that none could see it, until His hand was removed.

 

[Footnote in EW: THIS APPLIES TO THE CHART USED DURING THE 1843 MOVEMENT, AND HAS SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE CALCULATION OF THE PROPHETIC PERIODS AS IT APPEARED ON THAT CHART. THE NEXT SENTENCE EXPLAINS THAT THERE WAS AN INACCURACY (“the daily”) WHICH IN THE PROVIDENCE OF GOD WAS SUFFERED TO EXIST. BUT THIS DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PUBLICATION OF A CHART SUBSEQUENTLY (the 1850 Chart) WHICH WOULD CORRECT THE MISTAKE, AFTER THE 1843 MOVEMENT WAS PAST, AND THE CALCULATION AS THEN MADE HAD SERVED ITS PURPOSE.]  {EW 74.1}

 

Next sentence, “the daily”

“Then I saw in relation to the ‘daily’ (Daniel 8:12) that the word ‘sacrifice’ was supplied by man’s wisdom, and does not belong to the text, and that the Lord gave the correct view of it to those who gave the judgment hour cry. When union existed, before 1844, nearly all were united on the correct view of the ‘daily’; but in the confusion since 1844, other views have been embraced, and darkness and confusion have followed. [Time has not been a test since 1844, and it will never again be a test.]” {EW 74.2} [Bracketed text indicates a paragraph break in the original Present Truth, November 1, 1850, par. 13]

 

Table Two (1850 Chart)

“Monday we returned to Dorchester where our dear Brother Nichols and family live. There in the night God gave me a very interesting vision, the most of which you will see in the paper. God shewed me the necessity of getting out a chart. I saw it was needed and that the truth made plain upon tables would effect much and would cause souls to come to the knowledge of the truth.” Manuscript Releases, number 15, 210—November, 1850.

“I saw that God was in the publishment of the chart by Brother Nichols. I saw that there was a prophecy of this chart in the Bible, and if this chart is designed for God’s people, if it [is] sufficient for one it is for another, and if one needed a new chart painted on a larger scale, all need it just as much. . . .

“I saw that the charts ordered by God struck the mind favorably, even without an explanation. There is something light, lovely, and heavenly in the representation of the angels on the charts. The mind is almost imperceptibly led to God and heaven. But the other charts that have been gotten up disgust the mind, and cause the mind to dwell more on earth than heaven. Images representing angels look more like fiends than beings of heaven.” Manuscript Releases, volume 13, 359, [Manuscript 1, 1853].

 

  1. Dan. 8:13 question “How long?” understood as meaning “When?”.

“When?” was “the daily” = Christ’s heavenly sanctuary ministry trod down by the papacy?  

Answer: Catholic priests began to tread down Christ’s heavenly ministry at about 200 AD. Therefore, 200 AD + 2300 yrs. = 2500 AD = NO 1844! (unless you accept the rejected 2520 yr. prophecy as a “2nd witness” to 1844.)

  1. Dan. 8:13 question “How long?” understood as “How long?”

“How long?” was “the daily” = earthly sanctuary & host trod by paganism & papacy = 457BC + 2300 = 1844.

Islam’s Long War

The prophecies in Daniel and Revelation, regarding the doings of Catholicism, Protestantism and Islam overlap each other like overhead projector transparencies, and by putting them all together, overlaying one on top of the other, we can get a pretty good picture of prophetic history, right up to the end.

The best explanation about the doings of Islam for about the last thousand years tells us that radical Islam constitutes the "Three Woes" of Revelation 8:13.

By about 500 AD apostate Christian Catholicism (the King of the North of Dan. 11:30 and onward) was heavily into worshiping idols "icons," and looking back over the long history of Islam, it is clear that God used Islam to chastise Catholicism for that very practice….idolatrous image-worship. Mohammad (the “star that fell” in Rev. 9:1) really just wanted to clean up Catholic Christianity and present it in its purity to the wild Arab tribes of the East, but unfortunately, after nearly getting himself killed, he fell back into his tribal thinking that reform at the point of a sword was the best way to go.

Generally speaking, for a thousand years Islam's attacks on Catholicism (the first two "Woes") kept the Popes’ Crusades from completely wiping out the Sabbath-keepers scattered around Europe and North Africa, and later, also kept the Popes from wiping out the Protestant Reformation in the 1500's, and pretty much just held the power of the Popes in check, until 1798 (at the end of the 1260 year prophecies) when organized atheism (the King of the South, manifesting itself as Napoleon's France in Dan. 11:40) finally deposed the then reigning pope from his throne, the "push at him" in Dan.11:40 (which is also the "deadly wound" of Rev. 13:3) which spelled the end of Catholicism as a political power, forever....or so he thought.

The first 670 years of Islam was the First Woe, from about 629 AD to July 27, 1299 AD. Islam was the religion of the disorganized (but no less deadly) Arab Saracen tribes that were like noxious "smoke" (Rev. 9:2) in the eyes and noses of the apostate Holy Roman Empire, both Eastern and Western. Sabbath-keeping Christians (having "the seal of God in their foreheads") had far more religious freedom under the Islamic Arab Caliphs than they did under the sun-worshiping Popes (…but, unfortunately, not so for the Jews).

For the last 150 years of the First Woe, from July 27, 1299 AD to early in the year 1449 AD, Islam, now under the newly organized tribes of the Ottoman Turks, fulfilled their prophetic commission to "hurt" and "torment" (Rev. 9:5) the kingdom of the Popes for "five months" (150 years).

The Second Woe began in 1449 AD when the new "Christian" emperor of the Eastern Holy Roman Empire voluntarily (a key point) gave up his kingdom by asking the permission of the Turkish Sultan first before assuming his throne. Soon afterward, the Ottoman Turks invaded, using explosives (muskets and cannons) for the first time against "Christendom" to "slay" (Rev. 9:15) the apostate "Christian" nations of Europe in order to expand their Islamic Empire. Thus, as noted before, Islam continued to keep the armies of the Popes busy, which prevented them from being used to squash the growing Protestant Reformation.

Prophecy declares that this "radical" Islam was to assault apostate Catholic Christianity for an "hour, day, month, and year" (Rev. 9:15), or (applying the day-for-a-year principle) 391 years, 15 days. This time period, the Second Woe, was completed when the then reigning Turkish Sultan surrendered (also voluntarily) the enfeebled "Sick Man of the East" Ottoman Empire into the control of Christian nations on August 11, 1840, on the very day specified in the prophecy (taking the 150 years, and the 391 years, 15 days together). After the results of atheism were seen in Napoleon’s bloody French Revolution and Reign of Terror, it was quickly abandoned and tolerance of the Bible reinstated, but about 120 years later organized atheism sprouted up again in the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. Then atheistic Communism took over the job of holding the Popes in check (making the USSR the new King of the South), until 1989, when the USA helped Pope John Paul II defeat Communist atheism (the "whirlwind" of Dan.11:40) for the last time. So, from then on there has been no check on the spread of Catholic papal power (the last King of the South has been dead since 1989), and the Popes have "overflowed" into the "countries" of Eastern Europe once again.

 

America sent its first Ambassador to the Vatican in 1984. At that time the USA ceased to be a “Protestant” country (it is logically inconsistent to station a diplomat at the Vatican and still "protest" popery), and since that time the USA has been helping the pope regain his power in Europe, as well as allowing the pope to increase his power and prestige in "Protestant" America (the "glorious land" of Dan. 11:41). America is also represented as the second beast of Rev. 13; the one that is now in the process of changing from having the lamb’s horns of religious and economic freedom to the dragon’s voice of military compulsion and economic oppression. (Changing from opposing to supporting Catholicism is another prophetic marker.) The culmination of this trend will be when the USA enacts and enforces the pope's Sunday Law.

Right now the Popes are on the march again, with the aid of the USA, to gain control of the entire world (the Egypt of Dan. 11:42-43), and to eventually attempt to exterminate all Sabbath-keeping "heretics" worldwide. Therefore, God has allowed radical Islam to rise back up again also (the “Third Woe") in order to chastise not only worldwide Catholicism, but also apostate North American "Protestantism" as well.

Islam seems to have slumbered for over a hundred years, but there can be no doubt that we are within the time period of the "Third Woe" since Sept. 11, 2001, for "Radical Islam" has re-awakened and is on the loose again, with an emphasis on explosively violent surprise attacks, as before. Also, in order to be historically and prophetically consistent, their wrath must be directed at an apostate "Christian" power that is endangering God's true worshipers.

“The forms of religion will be continued by a people from whom the Spirit of God has been finally withdrawn; and the satanic zeal with which the prince of evil will inspire them for the accomplishment of his malignant designs, will bear the semblance of zeal for God. As the Sabbath has become the special point of controversy throughout Christendom, and religious and secular authorities have combined to enforce the observance of the Sunday, the persistent refusal of a small minority to yield to the popular demand will make them objects of universal execration. It will be urged that the few who stand in opposition to an institution of the church and a law of the state ought not to be tolerated; that it is better for them to suffer than for whole nations to be thrown into confusion and lawlessness. The same argument eighteen hundred years ago was brought against Christ by the "rulers of the people". "It is expedient for us," said the wily Caiaphas, "that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not." John 11:50. This argument will appear conclusive; and a decree will finally be issued against those who hallow the Sabbath of the fourth commandment, denouncing them as deserving of the severest punishment and giving the people liberty, after a certain time, to put them to death. Romanism in the Old World and apostate Protestantism in the New will pursue a similar course toward those who honor all the divine precepts."

Therefore, the closer America follows the pope’s ways and restricts personal and religious liberty (which the Popes hate), the more America will be troubled with the incurable plague of those explosive radical Islamic terrorists. Genesis 16:11 says of Ishmael (the father of the Arab tribes, and therefore the spiritual father of Islam), that he would be a "wild man" (and by extension his descendants also), and that "his hand would be against every man, and every man's hand against him," fitly describing radical Islam's attitude toward the world, and the world's attitude toward radical Islam.

But continuing with the prophecies......with the help of the USA, the pope finally will get control of the world ("Egypt" in Dan. 11:43), most likely through the United Nations (the "10 kings" of Rev. 17:12). But the "tidings" of the noisy Sabbath-keepers in Dan. 11:44 (the "loud voice" of Rev. 14:9 & 18:4) begin to call away the pope’s support-base of followers (the "waters” Rev.17:15, of the “Euphrates” in Rev. 16:12).

Then, whoever the pope is at that time, he "shall plant" himself (Dan.11:45) "between the seas" --or waters, or his people/support-base (Rev.17:15), and the "glorious holy mountain," which is God's purified Sabbath-keeping church, who are calling his people, his support-base, away from him, but "he shall come to his end" when the "10 kings" of Rev. 17 turn on him (and Jesus comes to save His loyal Sabbath keepers~!), "and none shall help him".
