I actually didn't want to mention this, but in 2006 I moved out of the city, prayed for guidance for about 5 years... Listened to older, more wiser SDAs - long story short, it was not successful, it drained me financially, emotionally and physically.
I only want you to know that whatever you planned - wait for God to approve it, with whoever (of course all must be dedicated SDAs with the same vision & mission in mind) - wait for God to choose and approve them.
There's a few things I want to mention that you guys need to look into. And it happened to other groups as well, therefore I want you to look at it from different angles:
We've got different personalities, some are more emotional than others, some rely on you to do things for them - for example: they are handicapped - their age, their health, their mobility, etc....and some rely totally on you - financially to care for them; shelter, food, clothes, medicine, transport, as well as to care for their non-Adventist children/parents that will come to stay with them permanently, etc.
I think the best way to go about it, is to draw up a contract and to stick to it, don't take any compromises, even if they are your family. Even include in your contract the ones that can't work, can't bring in any income or any kind of contribution (only complaints, of cause you'll get these persons as well).
You must have strong leadership abilities. Also put strong foremen/forewomen into the different sections/positions, because you can't be everywhere, handling everything.
Run it like a business; hold frequent meetings, keep to target dates, etc.
Get legal advice. I need to say this; to manage everyone, keep them happy, took the joy and fun out of the project for me.
I've wanted from the very start to only live self sustainable, provide for food and maintain the buildings/fences, but you will find that others (who needed an income) wants to sell their part of the products... relying thereafter on you...
All I can say is; keep the numbers down, don't go too big, look into every scenario and put it into a contract, especially if money is involved, and what will happen if everything goes sour...then you must pay them out/give them other accommodation.
At the end you will be forced to sell the land and probably there will be no profit. Be careful. Let God lead you and never forget that you are there because of Him giving you the instruction to live in the Country... Good luck. God bless.
